Cooper's BBQ in Llano

Last weekend, we planned another BBQ trip. This time, we were heading to Cooper's in Llano.

But just a thirty minutes before we were planning to leave, we realized Caden had a fever and was not feeling well! Amy decided to take him to the doctor instead of Cooper's. (He had an ear infection but is doing better now.) Thankfully, Amy let me go to Cooper's without her. It ended up being a guys trip (Matt, Russell, Chris, and Braden) plus Caroline. We all piled into Chris's car and made the one hour trip to Cooper's.
Here are the pits at Cooper's. When your order your meat, you walk right up to the pit and tell the guy what you want and about how much of it. You take it inside where they weight it, package it, and bill you.
Here is my "plate." I had pork ribs, beef ribs, sausage, brisket, turkey, and pork. believe it or not, there was more food there than you see in the picture--a lot of it was stacked on itself. :)
As you can see, Caroline hated every minute of it. :)The ribs, both pork and beef, were my favorite thing at Cooper's. I thought Cooper's was really good (better than everywhere I've been in Austin) but I liked both places we went to in Lockhart more. Cooper's was also a little bit expensive...but part of that was because I ordered almost everything. :)

Caroline and I had a lot of fun together! We can't wait for the next BBQ trip. Hopefully, Mommy and Caden will come on that one.

Dad Life Video

I'm probably one of the last people to see this video, but I thought this video was great. It was made by "Church on the Move" for Father's Day.

They also made one for Mothers Day.

Seersucker Suit

I promised a few of you a picture of Jason in his seersucker suit from Angela's wedding. He looked great in his blue and white stripes! If I can do enough bribing, you may even see Jason and Caden in matching suits next Easter! :)

The Twins Loves the Computer

Caden loves sitting at the computer with Daddy looking at pictures of himself and Caroline. He gets very excited whenever I open a new picture. He will bang on the desk (and the keyboard if it is within reach) and will squeal or laugh enthusiastically.
Caroline also loves playing at the computer but does not get as excited at the pictures. If I'm at the computer, she will stop whatever she was doing, crawl over, and insist on sitting on my lap. A few days ago, I worked from home for a couple hours and had Caroline sitting on my lap much of the time.

Some of Caden's Faces

Our little man has become very expressive. I took three quick pictures of him and this is what I found. You can see how little time elapsed between pictures by watching his hand move up to grab his ear.

A Bunch of Random Pictures

Don't they look like the happiest babies here? They sure do have a lot of fun together.
I think it is impressive how well Caroline pulls of bald and drooling.A deer caught in headlights.Caden enjoys relaxing in the bath.Caroline likes crawling around in the bath tub and trying to stand up. She also enjoys stealing brothers toys.Caroline trying to decide what to order from her favorite restaurant--Pappasittos.Caroline likes pulling up on things to look over the other side. This time, she found dad with a camera on the other side of the couch.
Here is Caden playing with Dapper Dan. Dapper Dan was my favorite when I was a little guy. He still has a hospital tag on his arm when I took him with me to get my tonsils taken out. Okay, Caden...that's enough...give Dapper Dan back to Daddy before you drool on him... :)
Caroline loves smiling. These next two pictures are so similar but I could not figure out which one I liked better so I decided to share both.Caden loves being pushed around on his Lightning McQueen car. I think he just had an accident with Caroline."Caroline, Get out of the way so I can drive!!!"Carline being all cute and stuff.

Angela and Allen's Wedding

My sister got married two months ago on May 15th. Everything went very well. And most importantly, they had some of the best wedding food ever which included an omelet bar. :)

Here are the pink and blue decorations complete with these cool wheat grass table center pieces.
I only snapped one picture of the happy couple and it was of them cutting the cake. The cake was made by Bronwen Webber. Amy and I (mostly Amy), have seen Bronwen compete in multiple cake competitions on the Food Network. Funny story, when my sister met with Bronwen to pick out the cake, Angela told her that she doesn't like cake. :) But I bet she liked this cake--it was good.Angela and our dad.Our mom.
Kids were not really invited to the wedding but our twins crashed it for a little while. They posed for a few pictures and then left with Grammie and Poppa. Here is a picture of bridesmaid Amy. I was a groomsman and wore a seersucker suit. However, we didn't get home with any pics of me in the suit.

Happy 40th Wedding Anniversary

Saturday, was Grammie and Poppa's 40th wedding anniversary. They were in Seattle for the occasion but Caden and Caroline wanted to congratulate them.

Caden's Fangs

Here is a picture of Caden's fangs. He is not a fan of us poking around his teeth so we needed to act quickly to take this picture.
Caden has two teeth on top and two teeth on bottom. His top two middle teeth look like they have been ready to come in for weeks now but they have not yet poked through.

Cutting Teeth

Caroline cut three top teeth today! I checked last night and there were no teeth on top. Today, either Grandma or Mommy found three up there. That brings her teeth total to seven. Mommy thought Caroline wasn't herself this afternoon and she was right. Poor little girl. Hopefully, she'll be feeling better tomorrow.

Two Messy Eaters

Our kids eating skills have improved but they still make a big mess when eating.

How We Spend Our Money

Last week, Amy and I went to a Shane & Shane concert at our church while Grammie and Poppa babysat the twins. Amy left the concert a little early and got home before me. When she got there, Amy found water dripping through our dining room ceiling right below where the AC the attic. Amy called me and got her dad investigate the problem.

When I found out this happened, I was kicking myself for not installing a float switch that would shut the AC off when the drip pan filled with water. I expected to go into the attic and see that the drain had clogged, the emergency drain had failed, and the drip pan overflowed. This is the exact situation that a float switch would prevent.

However, this is not what I found in the attic. The drip pan was completely dry and the drains did not seem to be clogged. There was hardly any water to be found. The AC unit itself was slightly damp but that was about it. Gary and I were unsure what had actually happened.

To prevent further water damage, we turned off the AC and headed over to Grammie and Poppa's for a cool nights "sleep." Sleep is in quotes since the twins still do not know how to sleep through the night when away from home. We ended up being there a couple nights while everything was fixed. Grammie took off Monday and Tuesday to hang out with Amy and the kids.

On Monday, an AC guy came by to see what was going on and scheduled it to be fixed the next day. Our AC unit had a lot of problems. Below is an image I drew of what an AC unit in the attic should look like.
Air from the ducts in sucked into the coil that cools the air and pushes the cool air back out ducts to the rest of the house. There is a lot of condensation during the cooling process and, according to the AC guy, our unit could generate around 50 gallons a day. To handle all of the condensation, water flows down the a pipe into our normal water drain. It is common for that drain to become clogged which is why a drip pan and emergency drain exist below the coil. The emergency drain empties water outside at the edge of the roof.

Well, here is what the AC unit in our attic looked like.
The coil and ducts out were improperly installed on an angle. Then, our coil sprung a coolant leak causing some condensation to freeze. This allowed water to make it out of the water collector inside the coil and into the ducts section. Once water made it to the ducts section, it eventually soaked through causing the leak. Also, our drip pan was smaller than it should have been and was barely the size of the coil.

When all of this happened, Amy and I were thankful that our house was still under warranty since we bought it slightly under a year ago. We assumed the warranty would cover most of this. Wrong! It only covered the broken coil. It didn't even cover draining or disposing of the remaining coolant. We were on the hook for doing that and fixing the other stuff like the giant slope of our unit.

We decided to pay to have everything fixed. There were a few things I could have done (like making everything level) but we wanted AC now and I already have a ton of projects. We got a new coil, a larger drip pan, a float switch, had everything leveled off, and had the ducts out cleaned (mildew had grown in their since it is likely this was not the first time water had made it to that section). It took three AC guys around four hours to fix everything.

After all was said and done, the warranty paid around $250 while we had to pay more than $1000! After all that, we were thankful to have our AC back. But, it turned out that we were not thankful for very long. :) Our AC went out AGAIN on Saturday, July 3rd!

The company that fixed it for us was closed for the holiday weekend. Amy talked to the warranty people who said they would send someone out Monday. But my wife was not willing to wait until then. (Go, Amy!) She calmly explained to the warranty person how we have infant twins and that we live in hot Texas. Well, it worked! They found someone to come out that night.

This time, it was an easy problem to fix. That AC guy said the previous repairmen pumped a little too much coolant into our system and the unit overheated. He removed some and everything seems to be working nicely now. Hopefully, it will continue doing so.

Here is a picture of how we like to spend our money. :) I went ahead and labeled it. I should annotated how much each item cost. :) It is a little hard to tell by this picture but everything is now level. I wish I had take a before picture so you could see how there was like a 6 inch drop off from the coil to the ducts out.
Now, we just need to fix the water damage in the ceiling. Thankfully, the damage is not that bad. Just one long crack and some water spotting. I will probably try to fix this myself.

Happy Independence Day!

The twins had a great first 4th of July!

Our gas grill gave out on us a few weeks ago. We are pondering what type of grill we want to get next, and secretly waiting for the end of summer sales before we buy a new one. Jason really wants a built-in one but those are expensive. In the meantime, Jason picked up a Weber Smokey Joe charcoal grill so we don't entirely miss the summer grilling season. Caden loves it! After Jason put it together, Caden sat next to it and banged on it for a while. I'm pretty sure he thought we got it just for him.
Caroline sharing an apple with Daddy. She thought it was delicious! Daddy thought there was a little too much drool on the apple.
We had to do a photo shoot in their red, white and blue outfits!
Here is a little proof that photo shoots can be both fun and frustrating for Caroline. She's crying in this pic because she started to crawl off of the blanket but the feel of the grass on her hands scared her. I guess we need to spend more time outside!

A Couple New Videos

The first one is of me making Caden laugh. He is such a little boy cracking up at fart noises. :) Caroline just doesn't find it funny like Caden does.

This video is Caroline playing with a rattle that is part of one of her toys. She is very enthusiastic about shaking stuff.

Crawling Caroline

Caroline has started crawling! She is not great at it but can definitely get around. I bet she will be a pro in just a few days.

Here is a quick video of Caroline "kinda" crawling. She was crawling really well and then we finally thought, "hey, we should video this." By that time, she was tired and was not crawling anywhere near as well as she was before. In this video, she is crawling towards her "Baby Boo" book. I like how she sits up after getting the book and acts like she is going to read it.
