Sleeping Caroline

Here is how our little girl sleeps most of the time. She likes sleeping on her stomach with her legs pulled up underneath her body in the fetal position.
It doesn't look comfortable to me but Caroline loves it.

Sleeping Caden

A couple nights ago, Amy looked at Caden's video monitor and found this.
It may be hard to tell in the monitor but Caden fell asleep sitting up! This is not the first time Caden has fallen asleep in a seated position, but it is the first time we captured it on film.

We decided to go move him to a laying position...and snap a few pictures in the process.
The second flash woke Caden up. He was still pretty out of it.
Thankfully, we he went right back to sleep when we laid him down.

Caden Sure Likes to Drive

Our little man sure likes driving. We are not sure how he came about this so early and naturally. I recently up a post on his little red car "Lightning". Well, here are some more car things.

Here is a picture of the twins at HEB in one of their fancy car carts. Amy, Aunt Angela, and Grandma all swear Caden thought he was driving the cart all around the store.
Caden never took his hands off the steering wheel during the entire trip. Just check out these pictures Angela took. In every one, Caden was holding onto the wheel. Caroline, on the other hand, was just along for the ride.
I like the one in the lower right where it looks like Caden is backing the car up.

Here a video of Caden playing with one of his favorite toys. Normally, he plays with the steering wheel more than he did here.

Caden also has a little plastic car that Grandma gave him. He likes holding it. Caroline doesn't understand why Caden likes it. If she steals the toy from him, she quickly loses interest and drops it on the floor.

I'm sure Caden is already counting the days to when he can get a learners permit. That is a little more than 14 years from today. :)

Splashing in the Bath Video

Here is a short video of the twins splashing in the bath tub. They love taking baths and get water everywhere in the process. We need to keep a couple extra towels on the floor to soak up all the spilled water.

A Couple Videos of Caroline

One of Caroline's favorite games is peek-a-boo. She loves getting behind some of her larger toys and hiding until Amy or I say "where's Caroline?" At that point, she either stands up or pokes her head around the side. Either way, she has a giant smile on her face. (I don't think our little girl knows how to give a small smile. She only knows how to give an ear-to-ear smile.)

Caden even enjoys the "where's Caroline" game and will giggle when she pokes her head out. Sometimes, when we start saying "where's Caroline", Caden will point at her and/or look below the toys at her feet. Thankfully, she doesn't know he is giving away her hiding spot. :)

Caroline has become a pro at crawling and can get around the entire house with ease. I love how loud she is when she crawls. She really pounds the floor as she gets around. There is no way she can sneak up on anyone.

Thankfully, Caden is starting to get around better with his awkward crawl. We know Caroline will love it when he can get around as well as she can.

Caden Loves His Car

In my previous post, Caden mentioned wanting a ride on "Lightning." Well, Lightning is Caden's favorite toy. It is a hand-me-down car based on the movie Cars. Caden LOVES it! He honks the horn to play music, steers, and pushes buttons to make sounds. By far his favorite thing to do with the car is go on rides. Caroline also enjoys the car and rides but she prefers chasing Caden around while he cruises the house.
Every day, Amy and I push Caden all around the house. A couple weeks ago, Caden even roped Grandpa into giving him rides. Caden loves every second of his time with his car!

Notice in the video how Caden knows to hold his feet up so they don't touch the wheels or trip him up as we roll around. This allows daddy to push Caden much faster than mommy thinks is safe. Caroline has not mastered holding her feet up. We push her around much more slowly as she sticks her feet under the moving wheels.

While Amy and I love making Caden so happy, we wish there was a way to do so that was easier on our backs. It gets hard bending over enough to push the car around. We just can't push Caden as much as he would like. It has gotten to the point that we hide the car from Caden by keeping it in another room. Otherwise, if Caden sees the car, the only thing he will want to do is ride around.

I love how proud Caden looks when he is on top of his car. Even if he was in a horrible mood seconds earlier, getting on the car cheers him up immediately.
Maybe we'll let this toy stay out full time when Caden learns how to push himself or can convince Caroline to do so. :)

Crawling Caden

While I was at work on Thursday, I got this email from Caden.

Dear Daddy –

I’ve been a really good boy today. I slept until 8:00 am (Mommy woke me up when she put sister in my bed with me). I ate an entire mini pancake on my own. Mommy had to make three pancakes for me and Caroline today!

The best part of all is that I crawled from the playroom to my room and then to Caroline’s room all by myself while mommy and sister cheered me on. Mommy is still a little worried about my hip, but she is really happy that I am moving around so much!

Please come home soon so we can ride on Lightning.

I love you!

Caden

I was so proud of Caden. It was the first time he actually crawled! He has been slowly scooting around for awhile, but now he crawls. Well, he crawls in his own unique way.

Amy is a little worried about his hip because when he crawls, he uses one leg how you would expect and the other one is folded beneath him awkwardly. We think he is okay and just not completely figured it out yet. He uses his leg normally when he stands and sits. It is just a little weird when he crawls.

Caden Sat Up From a Laying Position

Every once in awhile, Amy sends me an email from one of the kids. Here is the one I got today.

Hi Daddy! Today, I sat up by myself! I am getting to be such a big boy! I think I will be crawling soon and then we can play chase together. I love you! -- Caden

We can't wait for Caden to start crawling. He has been trying really hard to do so ever since he realized Caroline could do something he couldn't. They are going to have so much fun together crawling around the house wearing out mommy.

Caroline Found the Stairs

Caroline has been crawling for a few weeks now and recently, she found the stairs. Thankfully, Amy and I had already put a baby gate up to prevent her from going up. Amy captured Caroline exploring the stairs with the camera.

"I'm gonna go check this thing out. I sure love being able to get around by myself!"
"Huh, what should I do with this?"
"Maybe if I stand on my tippie toes and stretch..."
"Well, that didn't work. I wonder if I can get my leg on top of this?"
"Success! The leg thing was the way to go...but I guess this is as high as they go."
"Forget the stairs...I'll recruit Caden to gang up on Daddy! Let's get him!"
