Our Baby Swing

We are loaning our baby swing to the Bugbee's so it can be used by Baby Brant. Brant recently came home from the hospital and needed a swing while our our kids hadn't been in one for several months.

But before it left our house, we decided to go on was last swing ride.

Caden spent by far the most time in this swing so he went first. Up until now, the swing has been kept in Caden's room. He took many, many naps in this swing.
Caroline didn't think the swing went high enough on its own so she helped push.
Caden is big enough now where he could climb out on his own if not strapped in...which he wasn't during this last ride. :) Caroline didn't think Caden was getting out fast enough. She really wanted a turn.
It was finally Caroline's turn. She enjoyed the swing more now than she ever did as a baby! She rarely used this swing and instead used a hand-me-down swing. Caroline was by far the better sleeper and rarely needed a swing.
Caden was a little more gentle with the pushing than Caroline. He was also more patient when it came to waiting for his turn.Caroline must have stayed in the swing for at least 15-20 minutes and would have been in there longer if we didn't coax her out with her nighttime milk. She wanted to drink her milk in the swing but we wouldn't let her.

Our kids loved the baby swing so much that we contemplated not loaning it to Brant. :) When we decided Brant needed it more than the twins, we had to hide the swing until Chris came to take it away the following day.

One Year Ago Today...

This is us one year ago today.
And this is us today.
Can you believe how much we've changed?

One and A Half Years Old Today

Today was the twins one and a half year birthday! Amy and I decided to spend the entire day doing things we think the kids would choose if they had slightly better verbal skills.

Soon after the kids woke up this morning, I took them to a nearby donut shop I've been wanting to try called Nathalie's Donuts. Nathalie's gets great reviews on Yelp and I've been looking for an excuse to try the place out. I bought the kids some donut holes while I got a few things to try including an apple fritter and a maple frosted donut with bacon on the top. Everything was delicious! I can see why this place gets such good reviews.
When the kids and I got home from getting donuts, the entire family went on a wagon ride around the neighborhood. I didn't think about photo documenting our wagon ride.

After the wagon ride, the family went to one of the kids favorite places--Chick-fil-A. As a bonus Grammie and Poppa were going to meet us there. We got Chick-fil-A early so the twins could play in the indoor playground before any of the big kids showed up.
After playing for a little while, we got some lunch. The kids had nuggets, fries, and fruit from home.
After everyone finished eating, we traded the kid's meal toys in for ice cream cones. We rarely give the twins more than a bite of ice cream but it was their half birthday so we decided to let them have whatever they wanted.

Normally, a kid's meal cone is pretty small. However, the cones were massive this time! Caden had one or two licks and was done.
Caroline, on the other hand, went to town! She insisted on holding the cone all by herself.
Caroline at so much so fast, she actually got a brain freeze! It was very funny. This happened a couple times during the lifetime of the cone.
When the ice cream was gone, Caroline shoved the entire cone into her mouth and eventually finished it off.
After lunch, both kids said by to the stuffed cow and we headed home.
At home, Grammie and Poppa had some new presents for the kids.
Here, the twins are waiting for Poppa to finish opening the new toy.It had a car so we know Caden will like it.Now, it was now time for a nap.

After the kids awoke from their long nap, we gave them some milk, a snack, and then went to a park. We were worried it would rain but we never saw more than a few drops.

At the park, we did all sorts of fun stuff like swing, climb on playscapes, slide down slides, teeter on a teeter-totter, run around a gazebo, and bounce around on top of a space shuttle!
Here is that teeter-totter I was talking about.
After the park, we went home and fed the kids one of their favorite meals consisting mainly of chicken, macaroni and cheese, and peas. This time, there was no after dessert ice cream. I thought the donuts and the large ice cream cones were enough for one day. :)

After dinner, the twins then played around in our shower while we blew bubbles.
Caden and Caroline also tried to blow bubbles but they just can't quite create the necessary air velocity.
After the bubble blowing was done, we gave the kids a bath (they sure needed it). Caroline loves helping shampoo Caden's hair.
When the bath was over, Caden dried off in his horse towel.
While Caroline dried off in her flower towel.
After the bath, we started our normal night time routine. We drank milk on boppies and and got diaper changes. Then, we played a little bit more...
Some hugs and kisses were given...
We put on the rest of our pajamas and, of course, did some more playing...
...and then the twins went to bed. They had a long day.

Caden and the Grandmas

My mom and sister came to visit us last week. I like this picture Angela took of Caden hanging out with his grandmas.

Amy Called Me At Work

Let me start off by saying, there was no bad news so don't worry. I don't want to upset anyone like my wife tried to do to me today. :)

Amy called me at work this morning, which she rarely does, and she sounded very upset. She said, and I quote, "Something bad happened. I'm sad." Amy sounded very upset, possibly like she was crying, so I was worried I was about to get some really bad news. I asked what happened and Amy said that when she dropped the kids off at school today, Caroline said "bye bye" and walked right into the class to play.

This was Amy's "bad news!" For the first time, Caroline was not upset when she was dropped off at school!

Here is our independent girl. She is growing up so fast.
Mommy shouldn't worry too much. Caden still gets upset when we live him some where.

Updated Header Image

I thought it was time to put some new images of the kids in our header image. Here is the old one so I can remember it. It is amazing how fast the kids change.

Caden's Bonk on the Head

Amy and Grammy took the twins to a park during spring break. While there, Caden had a minor fall on some of the playground equipment. It didn't upset him and he continued to play. Well, a few minutes later, Grammy noticed a gigantic bump/bruise on Caden's head!

Caden didn't seem to mind the bump and he even let Amy touch it. Amy snapped these pictures with her iPhone and sent them to me at work.
It was good Amy took these pictures immediately because the swelling was completely gone by the time I got home from work. I would have never seen what it really looked like. The bruise is still there but it is looking better. I'm sure it will be completely gone within a few days.

We Love Kale

I went to the grocery store and decided to buy some kale. I don't think I've had it before but I've heard it is good and it was only $0.88 for a large bushel of kale.

For my first kale cooking experience, I decided to make kale chips in the oven. Amy and I thought they were delicious and were surprised that our kids loved them as well. We gave each kid a single kale chip and they immediately started reaching over to our plates to get more. This is especially shocking for Caden, who in general doesn't like eating and will rarely try new foods.
You can still see some of the kale on Caden's face.
"Oh, kale. I love you but I'm gonna have ta eat you."
"Yum, yum, yum!"
"So delicious!"
The twins ended up eating most of the kale I made. Next time, I'll need to make more so Amy and I can have a serving as well.
